The world we live in is full of possibilities and opportunities. Atleast the internet has been proving this right.
Since the evolution and advancement of the internet, doing business has become so easy, even for the art enthusiasts.
Previously, the art aficionados need to be physically present at an art auction, exhibition or convention.
Today, if you search Google by just typing “paintings for sale online”, you would see a number of online websites and galleries offering you the artworks of varied range.
Since the number of choices has increased for you, there comes probability of you getting some lousy copy or a duplicate imitation of an original work.
These instances have increased in last few years. Therefore, I was compelled to write an educator blog to aid the art enthusiasts and admirers to prevent any fake purchase. Let’s have a look:
Take the first step
The elementary step in the process of purchasing some great piece of art online is to do an intensified research.
Suppose you saw an online gallery with advertisement “paintings for sale online”. Before you jump to get hands on your favourite painting make sure to know anything & everything about the website or gallery you are going to pay to.
The internet is a place where you get any information. Make wise use of it.
Seek the previous customer’s review, testimonials and the word-of-mouth spread about the seller.
Get on to social media and join groups that are talking about art to enquire more about the authenticity of the seller.
Being an art connoisseur, be reasonable and informed before you invest your hard earned money.
Individuality
The simplest method to distinguish an original piece of art with a fake one is by noticing the signature of the artist.
A majority of the artists have this habit of giving signatures on the artwork. Check whether the artist whose artwork you wish to purchase has been doing signatures. See, how consistent are the signatures through multiple paintings.
If the pattern and the placement of the signature are consistent, then, you can easily find the difference between a bogus and an original painting.
Suppose the placement is not consistent, look for the other signs such as few artists have a habit of signing with a colour that complements with the composition of the painting.
Eye for detail
An original piece of artwork will have multiple layering that is visible from naked eyes. A painting that is just an imitation or a copy will not be able to reflect the intensity of art in it.
In case you are planning to purchase some exquisite traditional painting, remember to notice what colours are utilised. There weren’t many alternatives of colours available in the past, so consider these key aspects in mind.
Also, take note of the quality certificate that is being offered by all credible sellers and online galleries. If your seller is not offering you a certificate along with the artwork, you need to think again.
