Sometimes remodeling jobs are great for aesthetics or comfort, but other times they’re practical and necessary. For instance, you can remodel your kitchen to make it look better, and you can also make it more functional.
If you wanted, you could do both at the same time. However, if you had to choose one over the other, you’d probably opt for the functional remodel.
If you’re looking for remodeling ideas that will make your life easier, check out these four awesome projects. Some of them might be exactly what you need.
- Install washable wall panels
Do you need walls or a ceiling that can be easily washed and wiped down? If so, consider trading your drywall for PVC panels. Vinyl wall panels make it easy to clean up when your activities are naturally messy.
In addition to making your walls water-resistant, you can also install washable PVC ceiling panels. The most popular brand is Duramax, and their panels come in lengths of 8, 10, 12, 16, and 20 feet.
PVC washable panels are perfect for wet environments like dairy farms, car washes, cleanrooms, and kitchens. These panels resist water, mold, mildew, and bacteria, making them the ideal solution for maintaining a sanitary environment. They’re also easy to install, and don’t require OSB, like drywall.
- Remodeling your service counters
Are your counters ideal, or could they use some improvement? Your customer service counters are more important than you might know. While you might feel like all you ever do is wash greasy fingerprints off the counters, they’re actually one of the most important parts of your checkout line.
If your counters are too high, some of your disabled customers won’t be able to use them. If your counters are too low, they won’t be usable by anyone. If your counters aren’t entirely ADA-friendly, consider remodeling them to bring them up to par with the current legal requirements.
If your counters aren’t currently ADA-compliant, you might not be required to remodel them until you perform major building renovations. However, counters are important and it’s worth considering as a standalone remodel project.
- A rain catchment system
Saving rainwater and using it for your garden will save you time and reduce frustration if you don’t have a spigot in your garden. The best setup is to connect some barrels directly to your gutters on top of a building closest to your garden. When it rains, the water will roll down the roof and be directed straight into the barrel.
When you create a rain catchment system attached to your gutters, you’ll have water available outside where it’s needed and you won’t need to transport it anywhere. This is especially ideal for people who would otherwise have to run an extra-long hose from the house out to the garden.
With the right barrel, you can even hook up a hose directly to the bottom to make the water easy to use. You can also install a spigot if you want to dispense the water for other purposes, like to filter for drinking water.
This is a minor remodeling job, but will require altering your gutters to make it work. With the right tools and a little dedication, the job can be done in a day.
- Remodel your stock/storage room
Whether you have a huge warehouse or just use the back room, consider remodeling your storage area. A messy, disorganized storage room is the reason most people can’t find what they need. Disorganization isn’t always a mess, though. Sometimes disorganization is simply not having a system for storing and retrieving items.
Do you struggle to find items in your stock area? Maybe you struggle to find backstock, or you don’t know which binders and boxes contain important paperwork. Whatever you struggle with, use that as inspiration to remodel your storage area into something that works for you.
Start with getting the right shelving. Try to conserve space by getting shelving units in specific lengths that don’t leave large gaps along the wall. Build up – not out. Once you have your shelving, work on a system that will give everything a proper home, and make your items easy to find.
Prioritize ease
Comfort and ease are important. If something bothers you about your home or business, put that at the top of your list for improvements. You can remodel anything, but the best project to start on is one that will make your life easier.
